No Helen on Friday, so I had nobody to dance with. Ended up dancing with Mavis in consequence. We’re only practising the complicated turn in the quickstep anyway.
I could have gone to Heath & Reach on Saturday night, but Nicole wasn’t available. I could have gone to a tea dance, but Lynn wasn’t available. And in truth, I didn’t feel great anyway. So I just sat around at home instead.
Holy cow, I know how to live.

Tuesday night we had another private lesson with Debbie. I left feeling very wet. We chopped the second half of our routine around; it’s now shorter. And there’s yet another lift in there. Before we just had the Hitch Kick and the Bunny Hop. Now we’ve added a Hip Lift. I actually quite like that one, perhaps because I don’t have to bloody do anything.
My right shoulder is starting to hurt though; all these lifts seem to involve my right arm!
Wednesday’s class didn’t really involve anything “new”, but we did practise the new sequence we’ve been learning, with the impossible travelling flick-ball-change followed by a spin and a heel stamp. Again, we all went home quite wet. But not before Nicole and I had a look at the rack of costumes hanging upstairs. Nicole was quite horrified. Hehe.

Well, you win some, you lose some.
Wednesday’s dance class without Nicole was a tad dull, since I essentially had nobody to dance with. So I ended up dancing with somebody who’s not very good. On the other hand, I did learn something: apparently with the Neck Breaker, where you’re supposed to walk around your partner as she twirls, apparently I was walking round the wrong way. It became significantly easier once I realised that.
Friday’s dance class meant I got to spend an hour dancing with the lovely Helen. Unfortunately, she was nearly asleep when she arrived, and consequently I didn’t get much attention out of her all class.
And on Saturday night, I had nobody to go with, so I ended up saying in at home. So no dancing then. Still, with the amount of DIY happening, I probably wouldn’t have had time anyway.
In short, a disappointing week.

So, yesterday I took the day off work and had my car MOT test done. I drove the car to the garage, and walked home. I’m not sure how long it took me, but Google Earth claims it’s a distance of about 1.25 miles.
I sent Lynn a message. It turns out she’s home today — but only until noon. So I can go see her — if I’m quick. With that, I went out the front door and started walking. In fact, I decided to jog there. I now realise what a horrible mistake this was. Clearly I am nowhere near fit enough to be jogging, least of all on concrete footpaths. I also got lost once I reached her estate. I couldn’t figure out where exactly her house is. Anyway, I did eventually reach Lynn’s house at about 11. I was pretty soaked by then. :S

Well, Friday night Helen came along, and I got to dance with her all night. That was the good part; the bad part is that we spent most of the time doing the damned Pasodoble. *sigh* Oh well… at least we got to finish with the Catherine Waltz.
I really doesn’t seem like an entire week since I was sitting in the pub with Val and Nicole. How time flies when you’re a worthless loser, eh?

Wednesday night, and Debbie is nowhere to be seen. Apparently she’s not feeling well. (What have we done?!) Well anyway, we’ve got Lynda taking the class instead, assisted by Melissa and Sam. Most of the class seemed to be spent trying to find the right CD. It was all a bit of a shambles. But hey, we had a laugh. Mostly just practising stuff we’ve done before. In particular, we seemed to spend an awfully long time on our pump basics. And right at the end, we got to do complex moves to some absurdly fast music.
I always thought Lynda was fast. Over time, I’ve come to think that maybe it just seemed fast because we were only beginners back then. But no… it’s fast!
Of course, when the final track came on, and sounded absurdly fast, me and Nicole knew it was our duty to rise to the challenge; to dance the undancable. And I actually thought we succeeded. At which point Lynda stopped the CD and said “only kidding”. Bah, we were there.
Ah, just like old times…

Tuesday night, me and Nicole had a special half-hour session with Debbie herself. We got to watch the pair before us practise their Quickstep, and then it was our turn. Nicole hasn’t been feeling well the last few days, but she was perfectly fine for this session. I had feared I might not survive the session, but actually we spent more time standing around discussing tactics than actually dancing. True to form, though, we did learn a few lifts.

Well, Helen said she would be in class on Wednesday, and wasn’t. I knew she wouldn’t be around for the Friday class. So I had nobody to dance with. (Except Mavis, who has a cold, and a lot of other people to sort out.) And hell, we only did the Foxtrot and the Pasodoble anyway. So all in all, a pretty boring class. I tried to talk to Nicole afterwards, and just got a facefull of abuse about how I’m “not trying” to improve my dancing because I don’t have the time or the space to do any dance practise outside of class.
