Oohhhh my god!
Well, the entire evening is a bit of a blur now. But I’ll do my best to document what occurred…

The weather was reasonably cool on Friday. I knew ahead of time that Lois wouldn’t be joining me. Consequently I spent most of the evening dancing with Mavis. I don’t actually recall dancing the Waltz at all. The Quickstep didn’t go too badly, aside from the turns which I can’t really remember how to do. The Foxtrot was easier dancing with a partner who knows what they’re doing. (Again, apart from the turns…)
We added a new move in the Quickstep. At least, we learned the first part of it. It involves a reverse lockstep (i.e., a lockstep with me walking backwards instead of forwards). That’s about as far as we got. As often happens with these things, it took quite a long time to get that far.

OK, so we had a reasonable number of dancers last night. When I turned up, Steve was giving a private lesson in the downstairs hall, so everybody was standing around in the reception area chatting. (Mostly about the special needs people and how hilariously inappropriate they are.) Once again, it seems me and Georege are the only people not wearing embroidered T-shirts. I think I’ve got to get me one of those.
Anyway, we all filed in, got kitted up, and began with a Stroll. I don’t recall the track, but it was unusually fast. Nothing I couldn’t handle, just rather brisk. And then we noticed the torrential rain outside. OK, it was more of a fine mist than a raging torrent, but still, it looked pretty wet out there! It was a fairly cool evening, but with all this rain, it was very humid.

Not content with spending an hour doing Ballroom & Latin on Fridays, an hour on Rock & Roll on Wednesdays and helping out with a second Rock & Roll class after that, last night I attended yet another Rock & Roll class — Laura’s improvers class. It starts at 7pm, but I got home quite early, and I only had toast to eat, so I was easily there in time. (As a bonus, it was fairly cold weather too.)
Pam was on the front desk, and seemed moderately surprised to see me. Apparently this class is only £5, which is interesting. (According to the website, it’s also only 45 minutes, not an hour.) I wandered in and Laura seemed moderately surprised to see me as well (despite the fact that it was her idea in the first place). Needless to say, there was a lot of new faces to meet (and a few familiar ones). I did a quick count; we had 9 ladies and 3 men (including me). So slightly outnumbered.

Oh wow. On Friday we had a grand total of 5 dancers including me. Steve and Mavis are away, and we were supposed to get Linda instead. But as it turns out, we get Acer. I’ve seen him in class quite a few times, but I don’t think I’ve ever heard his voice. He’s quite a big lad; looks a bit intimidating. It turns out he’s very friendly and quite laid back though. What could have been quite a dissapointing evening was actually quite enjoyable.
I can only imagine the turnout was due to the heat. It was absurdly hot outside, and it was pretty warm inside too. Still, with the amount of actual dancing I did, it wasn’t too much of a problem. I shuffled around with Sylvia for a Cha Cha Cha, a Mambo and a Rumba. Acer tried to get us to do the Cuban Breaks, but I’m still not especially sure how that goes. I danced with myself for the Waltz, Quickstep and Foxtrot. (To be honest, I didn’t really try with the Foxtrot. I’m so hopeless with it.)

Last night, 2 ½ hours of dancing, all in one evening. Man, I must be crazy!
Unfortunately, while the weather wasn’t very hot, it was quite humid, which made for a pretty uncomfortable evening.
It began with my regular Rock & Roll class for an hour of dancing. No sign of Debbie, so Laura was teaching us. Very few dancers this time; there couldn’t have been more than 8 or so. I made the mistake of wearing the very thin black casual shirt of mine. I was hoping that because it was thin, I’d stay cool, and during the opening Stroll I rolled the sleaves up and buttoned them there. The trouble is, the sleaves spent the rest of the night irritating me. They just wouldn’t stay above my elbows!

Well, another uneventful Firday night. We had a modest number of dancers. When I arrived, Lois, Val and Mavis were sitting by the console chatting. We also had Sue & Ian, Mike & Teresa, and 5 minutes into the class Paul & Pauline turned up.

Due to various circumstances, I was a little bit rushed getting to class on time. I still had time to spike my hair though (with the lower-strength gel, since I’ve run out of 4-spot). When I arrived, Debbie was already standing in reception chatting to a few people. “Hi Andrew. Oh, and I suppose you’d like to know your results too? Right then, shall we go in?”
We all trundled in and I set about booting up. Pete’s partner was complaining about how she’d managed to kick herself while dancing and ended up with several bruises on her legs. Debbie spent the whole class dancing in her socks due to a toe infection. She complained at length about how it keeps recurring, but the doctors don’t seem to know why or how to fix it.
