Unfulfilled

Last night’s dance class wasn’t so hot. I can’t put my finger on why, I just didn’t enjoy it all that much. I don’t know if it was because of dancing with unfamiliar people or what. Maybe it’s just one of those nights?

We danced the Panic Routine a few times, with Debbie making a few adjustments to the American Spin, and also asking us to dance the basics turning. (I really hate that… in any dance!) We had a go at the Charlseton thing, and also the Sliding Doors move we learned last week. It turns out that I’m surprisingly bad at the latter; last week I thought it went OK, but this week I’m rubbish!

According to Debbie, for the Bronze Rock & Roll medal, you just need to dance through the Panic Routine. (No idea which subtle variation of it — although perhaps it doesn’t matter.) I did try to speak to Debbie at the end of the class, but she was busy arranging things with other people. And then the next class started, so in the end I just went home.

Still, on the plus side, at least I almost managed to put the drop-basics into the prominades. And I wasn’t quite so wet or exhausted at the end of the class…

Not always successful

Well, last night I decided to head over to the New Inn to see if anybody from the dance class would be there. As it is, I spent the whole evening alone. Oh well! Maybe next time…

PS. £2.20 for a pint of lemonade? :o

More politics

Because, let’s face it, you can never have too little politics!

This one’s for you FlipC. I can comment on your blog, but there’s no way to actually “suggest” topics for new posts. I can only comment on existing ones. So I’m putting this here instead. ;)

Now I don’t know very much about British politics. (E.g., which party does Gordan Brown actually belong to? I have no idea.) I’m sure I’m not the only one. Let’s face it, most of the time the general public have absolutely no influence on the way the country is run, so it’s kind of irrelevant who’s running it; you can’t do anything about it, so what difference does it make?

The exception to this rule is of course election time. ;)

Epic failure

Guess what?

The IDTA exams are happening on… Father’s Day. Fantastic. And this year, that also coincides with my grandfather’s 80th birthday. This being the case, I will be in London on that day. The only day of the entire month when I’m unavailable, and that’s when the exams are.

OK, now I’m frustrated…

My first private lesson

Yes, that’s right. I spent half an hour upstairs with Mavis. For the princely sum of £20, we had the hall all to ourselves. (Obviously I can’t afford to spend this amount of money too often!)

I think the session went quite well. I was intending to just work on my Quickstep, but in the end we had time to practise the Waltz as well. (I had assumed the session would be over too quickly.) It’s surprising how breathless even a simple Waltz left me; I attribute that partly to nerves. I was quite self-concious.

The Mayfair Quickstep

I arrived for class a little early. I watched the prior class as I put my shoes on. It seems they have several spare ladies. Indeed, as I’m putting my shoes on Mavis orders me to help out. (She’s very polite, but that woman doesn’t take no for an answer.) So I end up dancing with some lady who’s name is Jill I think. Not that I could dance very well; I managed to start the Foxtrot on the wrong foot! That’s always a good start.

It turns out Jill is staying for our class as well, so I had an actual dance partner for the evening. We danced the usual succession of Waltzes, Quicksteps and so forth. I was really not very good, it must be said. I guess I’m just having an off-night or something?

First night

OK, wow. I survived Debbie’s Rock &amp Roll class. I feel like I should get a medal for that or something…

In fairness, it wasn’t as hard as I was expecting. But it certainly wasn’t “easy”!

Assassin’s Creed: The final chapter?

When I finally got my mum to **** off and stop ruining my life, I got to play some more AS.

First I was sent to assassinate somebody (surprise!), and it turned out there were six somebodies to chase after. And each one of them is inside a courtyard, with two guards and a crowd of people blocking my way. There’s no obvious way to climb in without attracting way too much attention. I did manage to go up to one of the guards and kill him with the hidden blade, and just about get to the other guy and kill him before he noticed. That dispersed the crowd so I could get through the doorway. But then, predictably, I was spotted and a complex, cramped battle ensued.
