Two games

My dad obviously had no idea what the hell to get for my birthday, so he got me some games. Apparently most shops only sell games for PS3 or Xbox or something, and finding PC games isn’t easy. (Unless you want the £2 games like Quake or HalfLife.) What he eventually gave me was Assassin’s Creed and Cryostasis.

Now from what I’ve heard, Assassin’s Creed was OK, but Assassin’s Creed 2 was infinitely better. We shall see. But I started off with Cryostasis (which I’ve never heard of).

The last dance

I was bored Friday night, so I turned up to class about half an hour early. I chatted to the receptionist a bit, and also bought myself a ticket to the Summer Dance. (I got ticket #3. Keen, much?) Lesley turned up about quarter of an hour later, and we wandered into the dance hall together. Carefully we picked our way to the other side of the room where there were some vacant chairs. (Crossing a dance floor is a hazardous thing, you know!)

We sat and talked for a while. It seems Lesley is thinking about leaving this class and finding a beginner’s class on a different night of the week so that her husband can attend. Which is fair enough. We saw Lois arrive and plant herself at the other side of the room, apparently alone. I went out of the room for a moment, and when I got back the previous class was leaving and Lesley was chatting to Lois.

Nah nah nah

When you left me all alone
At the record hop,
Said that you were going out
For a soka pop.
You were gone for quite a while,
Half an hour or more.
When you came back, man oh man!
This is what I saw:

Vacant

Well, with the suggestion that my class might get merged into the Wednesday 7:15 class, I wanted to see if I can actually get to the dance hall for 7:15. I also wanted to see what the class looks like; from the 10 minutes I saw of it last time, it looks ****ing hardcore! (I.e., I probably wouldn’t survive 10 seconds.)

As it turns out, I can get there for 7:15. But, unfortunately, only 4 dancers turned up for class, so they decided to cancel it.

Seriously, where is everybody this week?

Walk like… a chicken

Hooo boy, I don’t know what I missed at last week’s dance class, but it sounds pretty hardcore. Not too many people here tonight; Cleo and her friend, plus their respective boyfriends, but no Mandy or Bill.

This week featured us trying to dance a little routine that goes something like hits: Two prominades, swivels, American spin (both partners, catch right), pit-pat, American spin (both partners, catch left), shoulder slip (catch right), double Charleston. The fact that I’m not sure how “swivels” is supposed to go doesn’t help — although I must admit, the pit-pat seems drastically easier than when I tried to learn it last year. (Good thing I learned it then, because otherwise I’d have been stuffed last night!) My main problem was the irresistible urge to follow the American spin with a return rather than a pit-pat, but hey.

I’m back!

Yes, ’tis true. I have returned from a week of skiing in the Swizz Alps. (Hence the temporary change of decor on my blog.)

The skiing was fun, but there were a few small problems. First, apparently it’s Easter. So there are queues everywhere, and even once you get onto the snow there’s not much space to ski. Second, it’s April. There’s not actually much snow left, and I got quite hot in all my ski gear under the dazzling Apline sun. And third, there’s nobody else out with me this year, just me and my host.

On the other hand, usually each year I get to Switzerland, ski badly for a few days, and just about remember how well I used to be able to ski by the time I’m due to leave. Next year I start all over again. But this year, I skied reasonably well by the middle of the week, so that’s not too bad. And I wasn’t nearly as tired as usual, which I can only imagine is due to the dancing…
