Psychonauts

Of course, the reason I was in the Steam online store in the first place was a game called Psychonauts.

Zero Punctuation had this to say about it.

Alien vs Predator

Ah yes, I remember it well. When I was a teenager, my little sister used to get me to give her a lift to her boyfriend’s house. His family were stupidly rich, and he had a cutting-edge gaming PC in his bedroom. They used to let me play AvP while they were… hmm, actually, I wonder WTF they were doing while I was upstairs?? :o

Bigger bunch

The mists have cleared. It seems what they’ve done is take the two Tuesday night Rock & Roll classes and just stuffed them into one. So instead of an intermediate and an advanced class each with about 7 people, we now have one single class with a reasonable number of people in it. (Although I notice that most of the people who were in my class just plain didn’t show up at all…)

Love strife

In a sad attempt to get a girl, I am currently signed up to just about every Internet dating website known to mankind. And have been for almost a decade now.

Unfortunately, dating websites have several problems.

Second dance

And so, finally, I get to do some more dancing this year, with the Friday night Ballroom & Latin class. Unfortunately, all we really did was practice the Jive, which I still don’t like. I still really don’t get what the steps are supposed to be, and jiggling around on tip-toes in really very uncomfortable.

The next move somewhat gave the game away: change of hands behind the back? Haven’t I heard this somewhere before? On inspection, it appears that all three figures we have so far learned are actually identical to the same three figures in the Rock & Roll, but with each slow step replaced by three fast steps. The back-step remains unaltered.

This might well be the magic key to unlocking this dance. If the whole damned lot really is just the same thing with a slightly different step rhythm, then hypothetically I already know it all. But that would seem far too simple; I’m sure they’ll be more to it than that.

It seems Steven is coming with Lois to the Friday night classes now. And, in a surprise turn of events, it seems that the two of them are going to start a Rock & Roll class. (It’ll be interesting to see how much the Jive conflicts with that!) If only I got to be in their class. Of course, they’ll be beginners, and I’m now intermediate. Oh, and apparently the time of my R&R class is moving as a result…

First dance lesson of 2010

Last night I had my first Rock & Roll class of the year. It seems only three other people bothered to turn up for this one. The classes are always fairly small, but this is just silly. I can only imagine it was something to do with the 8mm of snow outside.

In addition, the Ballroom & Latin class wasn’t running, so we got to use the downstairs dance hall, which I think is fractionally bigger. Anyway, Linda seemed to be at somewhat of a loss for what to do with just 4 dancers plus herself. In the end, we ended up learning Tiger Feet. :D

New Year’s Eve Dance

The last dance of 2009 (and of course the first dance of 2010) was the New Year’s Eve Dance! :D

Actually, this one wasn’t as good as the Christmas Dance. There weren’t nearly as many people there, and by 8:30 I still hadn’t seen a single person set foot on the dance floor. The evening had a greater emphasis on party games (some of them dance-related) and less on actually dancing, which is the thing I enjoy. Still, it wasn’t a bad evening by any stretch of the imagination.
