Dance inferno

Ah yes, another night of dancing. This time I decided I’d go for the jeans and spikey hair look. (Not that I think anybody really noticed.) I was hoping to see Lois leaving the class downstairs, but no. Oh well.

The Rock & Roll lesson began with a nice Stroll. (I’m going to have to find out how do add the turns to that at some point…) Then Linda told us all to line up. Once again, I’m the only guy with no partner. So Linda says to me “Can you come down here please?” — I start walking &mash “You’re mine” — I pause and look a little concerned. “Oh yeah, and what’s this about you calling me Scary Linda?” I start slowly backing away.

Going postal

This one’s for you, FlipC.

So a week or two ago it was my sister’s birthday. On Thursday, 6 birthday cards were posted; me and my dad posted ours from Coventry, my grandparents posted theirs from Harrow, and my mum and her friend posted theirs from Milton Keynes. All were posted first-class. Next morning, 5 of the cards arrived. As of today, two weeks later, the 6th card is still nowhere to be seen.

Lincoln Cathedral

On Sunday, I randomly decided to visit Lincoln Cathedral. It’s about 105 miles each way from where I live, and it took something like 2 hours to drive over there. According to the website (which is rather broken by the way) there’s no parking at the cathedral itself. So once I got to within half a mile, I just put my car in the first car park I saw and decided to walk the rest.

What I didn’t realise is that the cathedral is at the very top of a very steep hill! >_<

Nothing special

Dancing on Friday was kind of disappointing. We spent a while just practicing stuff as already know, and a little bit of time learning a new move in the Rumba. I’m not very fond of that dance; it’s about the slowest dance we do, and many of the tunes have a very poorly-defined rhythm to them.

Also of note, no Lois. I hypothesise she’s switched to the Tuesday night class permanently, so she actually has somebody to dance with. And who can blame her? It does mean I’m probably never going to see her ever again though… :(

Service as normal

Fortunately, last night’s Rock & Roll class proceeded as intended. I managed to make it through the entire class without flaking out. Which is more than can be said for Linda — apparently she has some kind of injury to the tendons of her foot. (This would seem to me like a fairly serious problem for somebody who teaches dancing for a living.) She’s not crippled or anything, she’s just supposed to be resting her foot.

Oh yeah, and I had a girl in my car. For about 5 minutes. When I left the dance class, I noticed that shy girl standing at the bus stop in the rain, so I offered her a lift home. (Which turns out not to be very far away.) She didn’t talk much but seemed greatful…

Epic dance failure

Well, what can I say?

Les is back this week. We danced a waltz together, and then Steve put on a cha-cha-cha. My favourit tune too. Clearly Les wanted to prove that she’s “back”; it was a rather brisk dance. (But then, that’s why I like this dance!) Steve informs us the track is four and a half minutes long. About half way in I was having to push myself a little to keep going. By the end I was pretty tired.

Turns out I was more than tired. I was exhausted, wet, and more than a little dizzy. Basically that was it for the evening. I mean, sure, I shambled along with everybody else, but basically I was finished. I was so tired I could hardly stand up, never mind dance the assorted Latin dances they wanted us to dance. (That and the minor detail that I wasn’t here when we learned those dances… What the hell is a “Botafogo”?!)

In short, after looking forward to dancing most of the week, I did 2 dances and spent the rest of the night either sitting in my chair, or struggling to stay on my feet. I was useless. :( I have no idea why…

Dancing with Linda

Well let me see now. Lois did eventually text me, so I have her number now. Unfortunately she was unable to join me for the Rock & Roll class, so I actually ended up spending almost all of the evening dancing with Scary Linda.

This has several disadvantages — not least of which I get to help Linda demonstrate all the dance moves to the rest of the class. No pressure or anything. :o (I tried to delude myself that Linda picked me because I’m the best dancer in the class, but in truth it’s just because I was the only guy without a partner…) The other disadvantage is that I’m now deaf in one ear. (Linda has to shout the instructions loud enough for the couple at the other end of the building to hear her.) On the plus side, dancing with Linda you don’t have to worry about coping with your partner screwing up the dance…

Dancing with Debbie

Friday night rolled around, and it was once again time to dance. My usual partner has just had 8 teeth removed from her jaw, so she was in no fit state to attend. (I find it kind of incredible that in this day and age, they still do that basically by using brute force and ignorance. You’d think we would have come up with something more sophisticated by now…) Unsurprisingly, this gave me a chance to dance with the lovely Lois instead, which is never a bad thing.
