Yesterday, my mum had a genius idea. As I drove off to work, she got into my car and came with me. When I got to work, she drove off in my car. She took it to North Wales for the day. Her idea was that she would drive back to pick me up at the end of the day.
Of course, having no car, I was unable to drive to the garage to buy myself some lunch. Fortunately I was able to buy some limp sandwiches from the local sandwich van.

I’m not sure what happened on Friday night. I knew my usual dance partner wouldn’t be there, but as it turned out, almost nobody was there. It really was quiet in the Ballroom & Latin class. And hot too. When we first walked into the room we noticed how unexpectedly hot it was. Apparently there was some sort of show on earlier…

So, last night I took mum to the Jipour, a local award-winning curry house.
The reason it’s award-winning becomes obvious the instant you walk into the building. This is not your chip-shop curry. This is not your local scanky curry takeaway. This is… Well let me put it this way. They pay a man to do nothing other than stand in the lobby and open the door for you when you enter or leave. Having walked through the ornate lobby, you enter the restaurant itself. Let me set the scene: The ceiling and floor are an earthy red. The walls are creamy white, with painted murals with guilt detailing. There are luxuriant drapes and fabrics. There are exotic plants of various kinds (all real, I might add). And in the center, a sheet of textured glass with water cascading down it.

As anybody vaguely aquainted with Haskell will know, Haskell has automatic type inference. That is, the compilers and interpretters can (usually) automatically detect what type everything has, so no hand-written type signatures are required. (Contrast this with, say, Pascal or C or Java where every procedure, function and variable must explicitly be given a type declaration.)
Just for giggles, I’m trying to implement this myself. And when you do this, you rapidly realise that while getting the basic framework to work is surprisingly easy, getting the whole thing to work properly is rather difficult.

Last night I decided to go visit my waitress again. Last time it was Saturday evening, it was busy, etc. Yesterday was a Tuesday, so I figured it would be quiet. (Just like the night we met — which was also a Tuesday.)
Well, she was there, and she seemed quite friendly. She had sounded cheesed off earlier today, so I thought having some company might cheer her up. As it was, the place was mildly busy, and when she wasn’t serving tables she wasn’t around much. I stayed there for several hours, and although we did have a few brief conversations, it wasn’t the evening of social interaction I had been hoping for.

Well let me see now… As you know, the dance class was a disaster area. My partner and her friend both demanded to know why my hair was back to normal rather than spikey. To that end, next morning I had it cut short. This makes it drastically easier to spike it up (although still not as simple as I’d like). Needless to say, I spent the rest of the day fussing with it.

Well, here I am, home unexpectedly early from my dance class.
You’ll recall from last week that there’s no Rock & Roll class at all, and Scary Linda is supposed to be taking the Ballroom & Latin class. Unfortunately, nobody bothered to tell that to Scary Linda. So… no dance instructors at all! It goes without saying, the evening was rather disorganised and chaotic. A bit disappointing, really.

OK, so check it out. One of the fans on a Dell server stops working. But we have a support contract. So we just contact them and they’ll send us a replacement fan. Right?
Well, you’d think that’s what we paid tens of thousands of dollars for, but no, apparently not. I have just wasted my entire morning going round and round and round Dell’s so-called “support” website trying to find the button that lets me request some God-damned support. I still haven’t found it.
