Mountains. Towering, snow-capped mountains. Titanic skyscrapers of rock stretching to the heavens, eclipsing the very Sun itself. All of Mankind’s creations are rendered moot before these awesom objects. Entire cities cling to their sides like trivial anthills. A huge castle of rock sits atop one peak, but it is a mere hillock compared to its neighbors, and the castle can hardly compare to the cathederals of stone all around. Man’s most magnificent constructions are irrelevant, insignificant, nay, infintesimal beside this landscape. Even the mighty forests that carpet whole mountain sides appear as nothing more than a thin fur coat at a distance. Mighty rivers and spectacular waterfalls are but mere trickles before the immensity of these mountains.

So last year, we moved premises. We had a new fiber optic link put into our newly constructed building, we moved in, and then we had the line to the old building ceased.
Our site manager send innumerable emails to BT asking whether they wanted their network equipment back. No reply was ever received. We even asked the installation engineers while they were on-site. “Not our department, guv” they said.
And so, the demolision crews came in and flattened the building. With BT’s network equipment still in it. Too bad for BT, eh? I guess the equipment has no value to them or something. I figured that would be the end of it.

And so, on Saturday, I decided to pay a visit to the local church to have a go with their organ. Once again I entered that silent, sacred place. Quietly. And I opened up the organ console…
…and stared into the void. The manuals and the music stand are gone, only a few screws denoting where they once were. And in front of me, I could see into the depths of the machine itself.

Heh. Well, on Friday me and my partner reached new lows of dancing skill. I can’t seem to remember half the dances any more, and my partner seems determined to do five of everything instead of four. (Not to mention starting steps from the wrong foot.)
Ah well, at least it’s still fun! ![]()

Haskell is, in my humble opinion, the ultimate programming language. [Yes, I’m aware that at one time I said the same thing about Eiffel. And maybe some day I’ll find something that surpasses Haskell. But I doubt it…] Haskell is not perfect, however. There are a number of things I’d change about the language.

Well, the dance lessons are… pretty crazy, actually. Every week, we add more moves and steps and the dances become more complex. And the basic problem with most of them seems to be that me and my partner just can’t move fast enough.
I can’t help noticing how the women’s steps are always way harder than the man’s. They have to walk backwards and do spot turns and all kinds of craziness. In fact, in the latest addition to the cha-cha, I’ve got to do a spot turn too. It’s about as hard as it looks!
In summary, I suck at dancing. As you’d expect. And my partner isn’t exactly an ace either. (Although she’s probably somewhat better than me.)
Still, I didn’t actually do this to learn to dance. I did it to have fun. And it’s still fun, so it can’t be that bad.
