Heee! Well, I’m back from another night of fun and frolics.
(OK, I lied. There really wasn’t much frolicking, actually.)
Well now, taking last week’s tip (that is, to take small shuffling steps rather than huge leaping bounds) I found the cha-cha-cha to be significantly easier. I mean, it was tiring, but I wasn’t destroyed by the end of it. So either I’m doing it properly now, or I’m actually getting fitter. (The latter is so obviously laughable as to implicate the former.)

Well, another week, another dance lesson!
It seems there’s a lot of people here this week who weren’t there last week. Most of the new people are ladies, and a few of them appear to be approaching my age group. Not that there’s much time for chat while everybody’s trying to dance…
Now last week, I got fairly warm, and somewhat breathless. This week, I was exhausted! I’m not really sure why. I guess maybe because we spent more time doing the cha-cha-cha and less doing the waltz. It’s pretty energetic stuff! And we learned some more complicated steps, so it was quite hard to concentrate. Actually me and my partner ended up more or less scrambling through the moves. Elegant it isn’t! But definitely tiring — thank God there’s free water available! We both needed it.
Anyway, apparently the secret to dancing that fast it to take smaller steps. I’ll have to try that next week. For now, all I know is I spent a whole evening burning calories and grinning from ear to ear. And that can’t be bad, eh? Man, I was pretty sore afterwards though. It’s pretty bad when an old lady has more stamina than you, eh? (Mind you, she does a lot of running, so…) My feet felt like they were blistered, the arch of one foot was hurting (I have very flat feet), and my calves hurt. But today I feel fine. Rock on next week! ![]()

Have you seen the mistletoe? It fills the night with kisses.
Have you seen the bright new star? It fells your heart with wishes.
Have you seen the candlelight? It shines from every window.
Have you seen the moon above? It lights the sky in silver.
Green is in the mistletoe and red is in the holly!
Silver in the stars above that shine on everybody!
Gold is in the candlelight and crimson in the embers!
White is in the winter night that everyone remembers!
Have you heard the bells are rining? Ringing out their story!
Have you heard the choir singing “Glory! Glory! Glory!!”
And so forth.
Seriously, at this rate I’m going to have an Enya-shaped hole burned into be auditory cortex… This stuff PWNZ!!
(Also… I’m pretty sure ‘silver’ does not rhyme with ‘window’.)

And so, the day finally arrived. Last night, I attended by first dance class.
I’ve been looking forward to this for ages. As the class website says, “get fit, have fun, make friends”. I figure if I can do any of those, it’ll have been totally worth it! (Although obviously I’m secretly hoping to get to dance with lots of cute girls — and hopefully get off with one.) Anyway, last night, the time finally arrived.
As is usual, I fussed over a lot of unimportant details. What to wear, where to park, etc. (Parking is actually pretty difficult where the classes are.) In the end, I actually arrived in good time. And it wouldn’t really have mattered if I didn’t; there was such a vast crowd of people that it took forever to get all the paperwork signed anyway. (Suffice it to say that the £6 per lesson works out far cheaper than the £56/month that the gym were asking for!)

And so, another year has begun. And once again I find myself sitting at my desk on another Monday morning. Yay for me.
And again, as is traditional, I have another random problem that I can’t solve. One of my servers has decided not to allow full backups any more; any attempt to perform one results in a BSoD and a reboot. How helpful.
Still, I have my CV prepaired. I just need to draft a covering letter and get it into the mail. It’ll probably be ignored as usual, but we’ll see. I also have plans for next week, but we’ll see about that… ![]()
