Oh thank @#~%*$! for that!!

Finally I managed to defeat all the Striders. (Only took 8 attempts today.) In the end, three of them got to the base. There was one Hunter left, but I just stood next to a dispenser and frantically hurled bombs at the Striders until, by some freak of nature, I somehow managed to take down all three of them in time. I was so busy getting beaten to a pulp I was actually surprised when the announcer called out that the battle’s over. (Interesting how once the battle is over, suddenly my allies have no trouble dispatching the one remaining Hunter, eh?)

Take a look at today’s QC strip.

You know, I can really see some of myself in that guy. I used to think like that. Almost every female I met was The One True Beauty, and I knew with crushing certainty that I would never be able to attract her interest. And yet, in my head I’d think up all sorts of weird crap like “hey, maybe if I secretly left a scrap of paper under her coffee mug while she’s not looking…”

The difference is, I never attempted to actually do any of this crazy stuff — whereas I’m presuming tomorrow we’re going to see this guy’s nutty plan in action!

Haskell is, without doubt, an obscure programming language. Recently it’s been trying to come out of the shadows, but still, it remains thoroughly niche. This is a real problem for anybody wanting to use the thing. Allow me to demonstrate…

Today I heard about Leksah, and IDE for Haskell. So I thought I’d give it a whirl.

Last night, I did something utterly foolish and futile.

I had a go at playing HL2:EP2 with the commentary turned on the other day. Right at the start, it says “Hi! This is Gabe, and welcome to HalfLife 2: Episode 2. I hope you like it. To listen to a commentary node […] Now, enjoy the game, and let me know what you think! I can be reached at Gabe N at Valve Software dot com“. Sooo last night I emailled him.

I rather doubt whether anybody will take any notice of my email, but I sent it anyway. You never know with these things. I should think he gets a few bazillion emails per day, but [the commentary claims] he does read them all, even if he doesn’t reply. (What is he, Santa?!) We’ll see…
