When I got back, I found this on CAD.
The look on Ethan’s face is classic. As another commentator wrote, “every panel is so full of win!”

Ah, how aptly named this day is!
I just marched into Sound Control and walked out with a freakin’ huge box containing over £1,000 of music software! It’s finally mine. Mine! All mine!! My precioussssss! Yes!!!

I’ve put a pair of birthday cards on Zazzle.
<ProductAdvert>The first one shows the words “Happy Birthday” under water in a rocky pool. (No reason…) The second one shows the words floating above some shiny boxes beneith a blue sky. (Again, for no particular reason.) Maybe somebody will like them and buy them?</ProductAdvert>
I’m also re-rendering my (only ever) IRTC entry at the insane 40 megapixel resolution required for Zazzle’s largest poster size. Considering that the original 640 x 480 tracing took several hours… well, let’s put it this way. It’s been going for several days now, and it’s still sitting at about 40% done.
(It slowed down drastically when it reached the main focal element of the image. It was managing 10 pixels/second, now it’s nearer 2. 40 million pixels, at a speed of 2 per second, gives us… 20 million seconds, or 231.5 days. GAH! o_O Maybe I should try for a smaller poster size?)
In other news… I notice Zazzle now sells what look like business cards. Interesting product idea. (I notice you also can’t purchase less than 20…)

As I sat at my PC on Saturday night, I thought to myself “It’s Saturday night. I should go out somewhere.” But I was just too damn tired. So I went to bed instead.
On Sunday I arranged for my old school pal to come over again. But it turns out his car has a flat tire. So I drove over there instead. This wouldn’t have taken all that long if the M1 hadn’t been shut. I spent 20 minutes just parked in the middle of nowhere, unable to move. And then suddenly all the traffic just drove off again. They must have reopened the motorway, because I drove straight through the supposedly “closed” section.

So I’m standing in the lab and a bunch of the project managers are having a heated discussion. Apparently things aren’t going well with a number of projects. One guy mutters “OK, well it’s running now, let’s see what results we get…”
At that very instant, the building went black. And through the closed lab doors, I can hear six mass spectrometers quenching. (Sounds like six jet airoplanes coming in to land — very slowly!)

So I finally got to visit the new building.
It’s still a building site, but they’ve nearly finished the car park, all the windows have been fitted, and the raised metal flooring is in. Most of the walls have been painted now, and they seem to have finished installing the light fittings.

Some folks help the needy.
Me, I just help myself!
And if I shared with you now,
It would steadily decrease my weath.
And if I saw you on the streets
With worn out shoes upon your feet,
I wouldn’t spare you the price of a cup of tea.
I know you brought me from the gutter,
Helped me earn my bread and butter,
But I have a lousy memory.
I didn’t loose your money.
No, I didn’t loose your money.
I didn’t loose your money.
Oh no your money just lost
You
Brought me up
This way
When just a little bit of
Love
Could have
Changed
My
Ways…

I am truly frustrated here!
Yesterday I get an email from HQ saying “hey, when you set the new PCs up, remember to use the new corporate naming standard”. Which would be fine, except that the corporate naming standard is stupid — you’re supposed to name each PC according to its location and function. Obviously, the net result is that every time a PC gets moved, you have to rename it.
