And so, the annual NERV clan gathering. We were supposed to be joined by a bunch of people from a neighbouring clan, but apparently they all suddenly lost interest as soon as it was time to actually cough up money. Ah well, their loss.
It’s interesting to note that the roadworks they were doing 2 years ago still haven’t finished. Consequently, it took me almost 3 hours to reach Ancaster. I was worried I’d be the first person there like last year, but no, everybody was there. I was worried about the weather forecast, but we didn’t have much rain. And I was worried about Jonny Thrust, who actually managed to behave himself this year.

It transpires that Lavinia and Clive were actually born on the same day in the same year, which is pretty unlikely. But anyway, it was Clive’s party this Saturday. Myself and Lynn were invited, but Lynn spent the day with one of her sons, and so was unable to join us.
Saturday afternoon we were just about to go out shopping, and I glanced at the invite to see what time I need to get ready&hellp; it starts at 5PM? Damn, that’s in, like, 20 minutes!
Heh, so I got out of a shopping trip.
As I had supposed, with the event listed as running until 11PM, it was more a case of arrive and leave when you please. But hey, I got out of shopping!
The party was in a small village that I’ve never heard of, at the bowls club. The route looked simple enough; drive towards Northampton and turn left. Unfortunately, there’s a dozen places where you can turn left, only one of which takes you to the right place.

As per the invite, me and Lynn were invited to attend a gathering to celebrate Lavinia’s birthday. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. We’re gathering for a meal, and the name of the place is clearly Chinese. I’m not real big on Chinese food, but hey, how bad can it be?

Nicole’s birthday party on Saturday. I was a bit apprehensive about going. Not really sure what’s going to happen. I gather that while it’s being held at the dance school, there probably won’t be much dancing. (Several of Nicole’s friends on Facebook seemed intimidated by the idea of dancing.) With the events of Monday, me & Lynn haven’t danced all week. Lynn was still a bit distant at the party. But still, we had fun. Lots of games, a tiny bit of dancing (which seemed to greatly impress Nicole’s friends). I was particularly worried when Laura got out the wellington boots and sunglasses — and I’ve seen this game before!
Still, in the end we all enjoyed ourselves. The party finished at 9:30, but Nicole and a few of the others went out onto the town afterwards, and apparently got utterly lamp-shaded.
In other news: I love the way that any word in the English language can be used to mean “drunk”…

As planned, on Saturday I drove down to Reading to hang out with the NERV clan. Or rather, a small handfull of them anyway. We gathered at OG’s house, and there was me, Scout, Pidgeon and later Silverwater. Scout also brought his girlfriend, and it turns out that they’re both circus freaks. Scout brought his diabolos in from the car, and we were all mesmerised by Scout and his lady twirling these things. In fact, Pidgeon and I spent most of the rest of the daylight trying to master them. They also had a devil’s stick, but that wasn’t nearly as interesting to watch.
I still remember us just standing there talking, and the next minute Scout’s girlfriend had climbed up onto his shoulders. That was pretty impressive to see!

So on Sunday I got a text from Pam telling me where the event at Roade has been moved to. She says it’s one place, Royal Mail claims the postcode refers to somewhere else. Anyway, I drove over there and had a look. Doesn’t seem hard to find, but it looks very small and run down. We’ll see if this turns out to be any good… I also had a look at the club in Roade. The sheet of paper tied to the gate informs me that the land owner has “peaceably rentered the property due to non-payment of rent”. So there.
On Monday I sent Lynn a text telling her I’d found the new venue. She thanked me for my company (and more importantly my dancing) on Saturday. Says she had a great time. Oh, and would I like to come over and chill out one evening. Apparently the house she’s looking after has a tile floor in the kitchen, and she’s hoping I might show her a few new dance moves. Well I’m not likely to turn that down, am I?

Friday 13 Aug 2010 by Orphi the AweKid.
Last night, as arranged, I had a nice night out with Lynn.
She did say something about going ice skatting, but the place is only open Tuesday and Friday nights. So instead, we visited her horse Echo, and then we spent the evening at the Black Horse. She bought me drinks all night (I was only drinking J2O), and we chatted for hours on end. In fact, we didn’t leave until 11 or so. And even then we didn’t go directly home.
I’ve agreed to take Lynn to Far Cotton tomorrow. It turns out her friend Lavinia (not Olivia like I keep thinking it is!) wants to come too, so I’m giving them both a lift there. From Wednesday it looks like there won’t be too many other people I know, but hopefully me and Lynn will have a laugh together if nothing else. (The detour on the way home was so I could see where I’m picking the girls up from.)
Presumably tonight is my last Ballroom & Latin class until next month. Hopefully that’ll go smoothly, and then I’ve got tomorrow night to look forward to. (Assuming I can find this place!)

As arranged, I spent my Saturday morning with Lynn. (My mother was not happy about this, but hey, I’m entitled to a social life!) When I came to pick her up, she walked out of her house talking to someone on her phone and brandishing a toothbrush. How’s that for random? Apparently her sister phoned while she was trying to brush her teeth. Anyway, I poked my head inside her house while she scampered around getting herself ready. (Speaking of random, she doesn’t have a rocking horse. She has a rocking sheep.)
