Episode IV: A new hope

Well, here we are in 2012. And that must mean that I survived the New Year’s Ball. Actually, it wasn’t as great as I’d hoped. But hey, it’s the Christmas Ball that’s always an absolute blast. By contrast, NYE is usually fairly empty, and this time was no exception. Still enjoyable though, even if I didn’t seem to do a lot of dancing.

As expected, Helen was absent, but Nicole was present. We did one Rock & Roll number, and I felt so exhausted I didn’t think I’d be able to dance again at all for the rest of the right. As it is, I got over it eventually. But suffice it to say, I wasn’t wearing the red waistcoat for very long, and I somewhat regretted the heavy black shirt with cufflinks. Still, it is the middle of winter; can’t exactly get much colder, eh?

Slightly disappointing that every time we got up to dance, Steve and Debbie came and danced right next to us. So, no competition there then. :P Nicole didn’t seem very interested in talking to me all night. Far more interested in chatting to everybody else. Still, Debbie came over and asked the pair of us if we’re going to do Blackpool, and Nicole’s enthusiasm was quite evident. She’s still talking about how we can raise funds for all the private lessons we’re going to do. (Not sure how we’re going to schedule that one either…)

Oh yeah, and I somehow got dragged into the Excuse Me Quickstep. And got physically thrown to the floor by one enthusiastic player. Fortunately no real harm was done, but there is a reason that I don’t play this stupid game.

Well, that was 2011. Let’s see what I can make out of 2012…
