Today’s disaster

Oh goodie.
It turns out that none of the computers on our network can find a domain controller. Everything worked perfectly yesterday, but today nobody can find a domain controller. (Oddly enough, the email server doesn’t have that problem. Maybe it’s to do with the backup DC they have at HQ…)
Anyway, obviously this means more or less that nobody can get any work done at all. Which isn’t very cost effective. So everybody’s very keen for me to fix this. Trouble is, I don’t have the vaguest clue what’s wrong.
I did see some events in the event log complaining that the DC’s IP addresses are not listed in any subnet object. So I created a subnet object and added it to a site… but that made no detectable difference. So, in a fit of desperation, I rebooted the DC. Now domain authentication “kind of” works, even though none of the PCs can find the DC. (What the hell?)
At this point, I give up. I have absolutely no idea what to do next. I’ve managed to get the system kind of working; I’m going to have to wait for America to wake up, and hope to God that somebody over there knows something about AD…
