Happy Birthday, Clive

It transpires that Lavinia and Clive were actually born on the same day in the same year, which is pretty unlikely. But anyway, it was Clive’s party this Saturday. Myself and Lynn were invited, but Lynn spent the day with one of her sons, and so was unable to join us.
Saturday afternoon we were just about to go out shopping, and I glanced at the invite to see what time I need to get ready&hellp; it starts at 5PM? Damn, that’s in, like, 20 minutes!
Heh, so I got out of a shopping trip.
As I had supposed, with the event listed as running until 11PM, it was more a case of arrive and leave when you please. But hey, I got out of shopping!
The party was in a small village that I’ve never heard of, at the bowls club. The route looked simple enough; drive towards Northampton and turn left. Unfortunately, there’s a dozen places where you can turn left, only one of which takes you to the right place.
When I finally managed to find it, it was quite a nice little club. I quickly discovered that there were probably about 60 people there, and Pam & Clive were the only ones I’d actually met before. Hmm, feeling lost much? Still, after a while food was served. Amusingly, most of what I ate came from the veggy table. (So, that’ll be the cheese then!) And a little while later, Adelaide and family turned up. (And it immediately started raining! They had to sit in their car until it stopped…) I spent the rest of the evening sitting with them.
Clive had is laptop plugged into a small set of speakers, playing various 50s music. On an endless loop.
Fortunately, the loop was large enough that it wasn’t that much of a problem. He called me over and showed me a few tracks, some of which I liked, others I didn’t. A bit later, Julie and her husband arrived. Dedicated as always, Julie’s first words were “hi Kayleigh, sorry I didn’t give you the T-shirt yesterday, I didn’t realise you were in”. Always working, eh?
Much, much later in the evening, Debbie turned up. She didn’t look very happy. Then again, apparently it took her an hour to find her way. (I even heard her utter “if it weren’t Pam, I wouldn’t have bothered, I would have just gone home again”.) She talked a bit with Julie and Pam, but didn’t say all that much to me. Ah well.
A few people urged me to get up and dance. Certainly there was space. But without a partner to dance with, I was reluctant. If Lynn had been there, I would almost certainly have danced around with her. As it is, towards the end of the evening I did to the occasional stroll and some solo rocking in the corner. Adelaide and family attempted to join me for one of the strolls; predictably the music ended at that exact moment. A bit later, she got up and danced with her husband, and Pam & Clive had a bit of a dance around too. I did have one short dance with Pam, which didn’t go especially smoothly.
In short, it was quite a nice evening. I met Pam’s daughter (no, I don’t remember her name — and I didn’t actually know Pam had a daughter), I did a little bit of dancing, and it seems I amused the other people at our table. (Not sure if they were laughing with me at at me though, to be honest…) Oh, and the Cake was Delicious and Moist…
