Back in the black

Friday night saw me back in Ballroom & Latin again. I almost wondered whether I would even remember how to do this stuff. And yay, Lois is back! I’m not sure if she was quite as happy to see me as I was to see her, but we danced together all night. I was beginning to wonder if she’d given up on this dancing lark, but it seems she’s just been busy. Looks like her boyfriend is about to start a new job working sane hours too, so we might be seeing some more of him. (Actually Lois says they’ll probably go to a lower class. But it looks like she’s still doing Fridays as well.)

We also had Val, Mike & Teresa, the Dutch couple, and a few other familiar faces. As is traditional, Paul & Paula arrived a few minutes into the session. My dancing was fairly naff, but Lois was a little rusty too, so she didn’t complain. I quickly remembered why I enjoy dancing with her. Even if she isn’t the most brilliant dancer, she is a lot of fun.

We danced the usual succession of dances to warm up, and then we worked on the new thing in the Quickstep. Lois seemed particularly out of time with that one. When again, she told me “the Quickstep used to be my least-favourit dance — until we learned the Foxtrot”. Personally, I share the sentiment. We also danced the Saunter Together, which went rather more smoothly. Except perhaps the part where we made it progressive. (!)

After the class, it was announced that the two little old pensioners in the class have just got enguaged. Isn’t that sweet? Lois stood next to me and voiced a desire for her boyfriend to propose, but she doesn’t think he will. Bless, they are cute together.

Paul & Pauline vanished before I could talk to them, and Lois had to go, but a few of us did head over to the New Inn. In the end, I think it was only Val who heard that I now have a girlfriend. (I already told Lois almost as soon as I walked in the door.) We stayed until about 10, and then we all went home. It seems like forever since we last had a gathering; I enjoyed it. It was only small (me, Val, Steve & Mavis, Mike & Teresa), but it was fun.
