Extracurricular activities

So on Sunday I got a text from Pam telling me where the event at Roade has been moved to. She says it’s one place, Royal Mail claims the postcode refers to somewhere else. Anyway, I drove over there and had a look. Doesn’t seem hard to find, but it looks very small and run down. We’ll see if this turns out to be any good… I also had a look at the club in Roade. The sheet of paper tied to the gate informs me that the land owner has “peaceably rentered the property due to non-payment of rent”. So there.
On Monday I sent Lynn a text telling her I’d found the new venue. She thanked me for my company (and more importantly my dancing) on Saturday. Says she had a great time. Oh, and would I like to come over and chill out one evening. Apparently the house she’s looking after has a tile floor in the kitchen, and she’s hoping I might show her a few new dance moves. Well I’m not likely to turn that down, am I?
And so I spent Wednesday evening with Lynn. We sat around on the sofa and chatted for ages. I got to learn a little bit more about what makes a Lynn tick. And yes, we spent some time in the kitchen dancing, or at least walking through some dance steps. Without any music to dance to and with some rather constrained space to work with, we weren’t really “dancing” as such. I just hope the neighbours weren’t matching us flailing about the place!
Lynn is very keen to know how to differentiate the various moves that follow an open-out step, so I did my best to show her. (Recall that this is the exact problem I had with Laura up at Roade, and Laura is a world-class dancer.) We practised things that Lynn already knows, such as the Shoulder Spin and the Catapult. I slowly walked her through how the Change of Hands Around the Belly actually works. (We’ve done it, but she’s never been taught it properly. Well, I guess she still hasn’t!
) And I showed her a few new moves, such as the Shoulder Slip. (She liked that.)
I had a go at teaching her the Charleston thing, and I think she’s got it now. Maybe. We had a little practise at Double Trouble (which isn’t so easy when there isn’t three of you). Oh, and I showed her the Bunnie Hop. She loved it. I knew she would. Everybody loves the Bunnie Hop!
(What’s more, she can do it too.) I have no idea what the hell the signal for this move is, so I doubt it’ll ever happen out on the dance floor, but I live in hope.
For reasons unknown, I got very breathless doing all this. Which is strange, considering how little physical effort was involved. It’s not like I was dancing my heart out; actually I was barely strolling casually around the room. Well, whatever. We retired back to the sofa after a while and chatted some more. In fact, I glanced at my watch and saw it was almost 9pm. A few minutes later, Lynn noticed that the clock said 11!
I have no idea where the hell the time goes. Good company I guess?
I ambled off to the doorway, Lynn gave me a big hug, and so ended another rather pleasent evening. Looks like Lynn is picking me up on Saturday so we can meet up with Lavinia for some more dance practise, before the three of us head out to this ill-fated Roade dance. Should be good!
(Oh, and it seems Lynn would like me to come and play the organ at her local church. We’ll have to figure out a time, but I’m certainly game for it…)
