The last dance class

As expected, Friday night was the last dance class of the month. Which I suppose isn’t surprising given the very low turnout. We had maybe 8 dancers or so. Needless to say, we didn’t learn a whole heap. We finished the new move in the Quickstep (or, more accurately, it finished me). It finishes with a Spin Turn, which I can’t even remember how to do anymore. We danced the Argentine Tango. (I danced with Mavis, who tells me the steps need to be softer and more draggy.) And I think that was just about it.
I mostly danced with Mavis. I also danced with some lady who’s supposedly Debbie’s sister’s mother or something random like that. Either way, it wasn’t the most fabulous night of dancing.
Afterwards, a few of us went over to the New Inn. Steve tells us it’s under new management (again), and there’s a much better atmosphere now. Certainly it seemed OK when we got there. It was quite full for once. It seems like a very long time since I attended one of these gatherings. Present were me, Sue & Ian, and of course Steve & Mavis. I paid for the first round of drinks, but Steve & Mavis hadn’t arrived by that point, which made the task very slightly cheaper.
At the end of the class I was telling Steve how the Rock & Roll dancing has increased my confidence, just like he always claimed dancing would. At the pub, I was telling him about some of the events I’ve been to and stuff. When I mentioned the Railway club in Wellingborough, Sue chimed in with “I grew up in that club”. (I’m uncertain whether she meant that’s where she spent most of her youth, or whether she meant that events of an adult nature occurred there…) She continued with “I’m surprised you didn’t get stabbed or something in that place”. Uh, great.
I think perhaps I might have been hogging the conversation slightly, but at this point it turned to Sue & Ian, so I just sat back and listened for a while. At some later point I mentioned Twinwood. Apparently it’s an event that Steve & Mavis often go to, and it’s quite good. We’ll see, I guess.
We didn’t stay particularly late at the pub. Soon everybody was heading off home. I guess I won’t see any of those guys for a little while…
