User accounts

My blog currently has 200+ user accounts registered, and hardly a day goes by when I don’t receive more registration notifications. (I can’t actually find a way to turn off the emails, but hey…) Most of these accounts have names like cheapusedcars and so on. Quite what the point of registering them is, I have no idea. I presume it’s scripted.

Anyway, I’m going to go delete all these ghost accounts. If I accidentally delete yours by mistake, just go re-register it. It won’t have been intensional.

Back at the bottom

OK, so, last night I had my first dance class for what seems like 4 lifetimes. (Actually 2 weeks.) It’s Debbie’s Wednesday Intermediate (i.e., Advanced) class. I arrived slightly late because as I walked out of the front door I started chatting to the lady next door about my dance exploits. And then when I got there I was chatting to Julie on reception, boasting about how I’ve danced every single Saturday night for a month.

When I went inside, Debbie was like “ah, here he is! I thought it was a bit strange that you weren’t here.” How well they know me. ;) I quickly got booted up and joined the others, dancing the panic routine with various extra bits tacked onto it. There were quite a few people there; we had Debbie of course, Laura and beanpole girl, Pam & Clive, Adelaide and her two girls, George, Donna, Pete & his partner, Elaine, and I see that Leanne is dancing again now. (You may remember she was supposed to partner me for my exam, but was involved in a car crash which put her back out.)

Twinwood 2010

OK, so I had high hopes for Twinwood. After Friday night, Saturday morning saw me not actually wake up until about 11 or so. I wore just a random T-shirt and some trousers, and I used my old pair of office shoes, since I figured out in a grassy field they’d probably get trashed.

Finding Twinwood was more difficult than I imagined. I set off just following the road signs. I easily navigated to Bedford, but then got a little lost. Eventually I turned on my satnav device, which lead me back the way I came, and into Clapham. But there things went pear-shaped. TomTom had me driving round in circles round some people’s houses until I realised that when it said “turn right”, it actually meant to turn right and drive down that tiny little gated road between two of the houses. On the gate it says “Private Road, No Access to Twinwood Areana”.

Busy at Wellingborough

On Friday night I again took Lynn to Wellingborough. (Lavinia can’t make it because it’s a Friday, unfortunately.) Also present were Pam & Clive and Barry & Elaine. And, much to my surprise, the club was much, much busier than last time. As you may recall, last month the club was basically dead. There was maybe two-dozen people in the entire place, which for such a big hall is nothing. But not this time! Whilst there was still no shortage of entirely empty tables, they did seem to be outnumbered by occupied tables.

It seems this is due to the band. Last time it was supposed to be Brandie & the Bad Cats, but they were replaced at the last minute by a group of nobodies. They were OK, but they didn’t exactly set the place on fire. This week, as billed, we had The King Cats. These guys got the joint properly rocking. I mean, when we arrived at 9 the place was already much more alive if only due to the volume of people. Already lots of people were on the floor dancing. But when the band came on and started playing, they put out a good vibe, got the place jumping.

V-day

I’ve blogged a lot of things since I started this site. But today I have especially exciting news: last night, I lost my virginity.

That is all.

Rocky road

Well, Saturday night saw me, Lynn and Lavinia at the ill-fated Roade event. Of course, due to the Roade club shutting down due to non-payment of rent, the event organisers had to rapidly find a new venue and try to communicate this to everybody. What they found was Ashton Rugby Club, about a mile down the road. Now I drove over there the other day, and it looked pretty damned small. But once you get inside, there’s actually quite a large dancefloor in there. (Certainly much larger than the one at the Roade club — although that’s not exactly hard!)

What there wasn’t much of is tables and chairs. But Lynn wanted me to put her jacket back in the car, and when I came back the girls had found some extra chairs and even a table for us to use. As we were walking into the club we saw Pam and Clive arrive, and the five of us parked ourselves round the back of the right speaker stack. (Better behind it than in front of it!) We were right by the back door, which was wide open. It was quite chilly outside, but regardless it got very hot inside as the night went on. I certainly think we picked a good spot.

Extracurricular activities

So on Sunday I got a text from Pam telling me where the event at Roade has been moved to. She says it’s one place, Royal Mail claims the postcode refers to somewhere else. Anyway, I drove over there and had a look. Doesn’t seem hard to find, but it looks very small and run down. We’ll see if this turns out to be any good… I also had a look at the club in Roade. The sheet of paper tied to the gate informs me that the land owner has “peaceably rentered the property due to non-payment of rent”. So there.

On Monday I sent Lynn a text telling her I’d found the new venue. She thanked me for my company (and more importantly my dancing) on Saturday. Says she had a great time. Oh, and would I like to come over and chill out one evening. Apparently the house she’s looking after has a tile floor in the kitchen, and she’s hoping I might show her a few new dance moves. Well I’m not likely to turn that down, am I? ;)

Saturday night at Far Cotton

It’s Saturday night, it’s dancing time! :)

It rained quite a bit on Saturday, but I did eventually get a moment to vacuum the carpet in my car. (You’d be amazed how quickly it fills up with dead leaves and so forth.) And then I went to pick up Lynn and Laivinia.

This is easier said than done; I drove to the place, and I was told the house is “just at the end of the road”. What I didn’t realise is that the road goes on for about half a mile! Eventually I ended up on somebody’s back garden patio. :o I managed to quickly do an 87-point turn before the owners of the house noticed some random dude in their back garden. And when I drove back round the corner, Lynn and Lavinia were waiting for me outside their house.
